Ethiopia today has a population of around 85 million people who speak 88 languages, with Amharic (also the name of the tribe) being the main language. Situated between Kenya, Sudan, Eritrea and Somalia, it’s about twice the size of Texas. While 60% of the population considers itself Christian (of which a third is Evangelical), the remainder is mostly Muslim.

In addition to tremendous poverty and frequent droughts, Ethiopia struggles with a legacy of Communist government oppression as well as social problems like human trafficking in the sex trade. (Some have called Ethiopia the “African Thailand” because of the scourge of prostitution.)

But God is on the move! Stephen & Ubah Carlton are working with a church called Full Gospel Believer’s Church, an Ethiopian denomination of over 2000 congregations that seeks to evangelize not only Ethiopia but also neighboring countries as well as the Middle East.
