Each local church is responsible for providing mature and competent adult supervision for their youth attending IMPACT 2008. We suggest churches provide both male and female leaders (who are at least 21 years of age) at a ratio of 1 youth worker per 7 youth in attendance (we’re even willing to give you 1 free youth worker registration for every 7 students registered from your church). If a church registers both male and female students, the church should provide both male and female adult leaders. The youth worker will be responsible for leading their group in prayer and discussion times, maintaining quiet hours in the residence halls, and will serve as the main source of supervision and discipline for their students. Here are some helpful hints to make the most out of your trip to IMPACT 2008.
Prayer & Discussion Times – Each day will offer a couple of opportunities for you to gather your group together for prayer and reflection on the day’s events. We really want to encourage you to utilize these moments to help your students process and understand what they believe God has said and done through the events of the day. We will provide some general questions and guidelines to help you facilitate these times, but we also understand that you know your kids better than we can and trust that you will adapt these tools to fit the uniqueness of your students. Our prayer is that your students would experience life changing transformation and we know these quiet moments (without all the sounds, sights and crowds) may provide the most powerful moments for God to work in the hearts and lives of your students.
Free time – You and your students will have a couple of hours of free time on Thursday and Friday afternoon. You’ll find that the University of Findlay offers a friendly environment that your students will enjoy. There are outdoor recreation areas for volleyball, basketball, and tennis as well as an indoor swimming pool and ice skating rink. You’ll also find lots of open space, whether it’s the front lawn of Old Main or the conversation areas in the student union; that are perfect for you to just “hang” with your kids. We encourage you to use this time to build relationships with your own students as well as make some new friends from all across the country.
Youth Worker Networking – No one understands the work you do like other youth workers! At IMPACT 2008, there will be specific times for youth workers to get together with other youth workers from across the CGGC to enjoy a time of fellowship, encouragement and networking. We think you’ll be blessed by taking advantage of these special opportunities.
Frequently Asked Questions by Youth Workers – We’ve tried to address some of your most common questions below.
Do my students get to pick their own roommates?
That’s up to you. You will need to fill out the Youth Worker – Group Form as a part of the registration of your group (you and your students will still need to fill out individual registration forms and any necessary Minor Release Forms). Use this form to identify each adult leader and student from your church as well as your preferred roommate requests. You will need to complete this form and return it with your registration and we will do our best to honor your requests.
